Spring Development Program Recap

A Season of Growth, Talent, and Competition

This spring, the St. Lawrence Lightning ran their 2nd annual regional basketball Spring Development program that brought together an incredible group of young female athletes from across South Eastern Ontario. After two Talent ID sessions in March, we were overwhelmed by the talent on display. Originally planning to select 20–24 players, we expanded our roster to 31 athletes, ranging from Grade 6 to Grade 10, thanks to the exceptional turnout.

These players came from communities throughout the region, including Trenton, Prince Edward County, Belleville, Kingston, and Brockville.

We all trained together throughout the spring (16 practices). For each event, we created three teams - U14, U15, and U16 with players moving around depending on availability and tournament rules. In many games, our players were 1–2 years younger than their opponents, yet they consistently rose to the challenge with intensity, teamwork, and determination.
