In preparation for the 2026-27 season, the St. Lawrence JUEL/JUEL Prep Program will offer training/development sessions for female athletes born in 2009 – 2014 who are interested in extending their season beyond the traditional OBA schedule.
It is targeted at competitive basketball players at the U13-U17 levels who want to train/compete with some of the best and similar minded athletes in our region in a relatively low cost/low commitment environment.
The focus will be on individual skill development, playing with and applying pressure, along with decision making and creating an overall fast style of play.
The training will include:
16+ x 2hr sessions starting in early May and running until late June.
3 travel tournaments including the top event in Canada, the Summer Slam in Montreal June 26 – 28.
Practices
2 evenings per week 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Tues/Thurs in Kingston
Starting Week of May 5 and running until mid July
Tournaments
Tournaments are yet to be confirmed but we are looking at events in Ontario and Quebec all within a 400 km radius of Kingston, ON.
Selection process
We will run two open Talent ID sessions:
Friday February 13, 2026 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Friday March 6, 2026 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
At Regiopolis-Notre Dame C.H.S. (Kingston).
All athletes are welcome to participate.
During each session, players will participate in a series of drills and game play while coaches observe and evaluate.
Our goal is to identify up to 30 athletes who we feel are the most ready and in the best position to maximize their development at this time. We may take more or fewer depending on the level of interest and the overall level of play.
Those identified, will be contacted via email by March 15th with an invitation including final fees etc. Players who are unsuccessful will be contacted shortly after once the roster is finalized.
Talent ID Sessions
When/Where
Friday, February 13 – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Regiopolis-Notre Dame C.H.S (Kingston)
Friday, March 6 – 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Regiopolis-Notre Dame C.H.S (Kingston)
Registration
To attend a session, you must register in advance through this online form:
Participation Fee
We will be charging a $40 fee to register for the Talent ID sessions. This will be the same whether you attend 1 or both sessions.
Please e-transfer to admin@stlawrencelightning.ca or bring cash to the first session.
We encourage everyone to attend both sessions as it gives us the best opportunity to evaluate.
If you cannot attend either but are interested, please email admin@stlawrencelightning.ca for options.
Expectations
Your current OBA team is your priority.
However, once that season is completed, the expectation is that you will attend at least 75% of the training sessions and all tournaments after that unless you inform us at time at the time of acceptance and we approve it in writing.
Fees
Fees will be finalized when invitations are sent out.
This is a not-for-profit program. So, our fees go almost exclusively to covering expenses.
The final fees will be based on total cost to operate the program divided by the number of players participating.
However, fees will also be prorated based on when your OBA season completes. U16s and younger should be available to start immediately during the week of May 5. Older players may not start for a week or more after that.
Each player’s fees will reflect that.
Our goal is minimizing the cost of this program for families while also ensuring good facilities for practice, and that our coaches' expenses are covered. All our coaches volunteer their time to deliver this program.
If you have any questions, feel free to email admin@stlawrencelightning.ca.
