St. Lawrence Lightning Shine at the 2025 OFSAA Championships

The St. Lawrence Lightning family is proud to congratulate the 9 JUEL, 4 JUEL Prep current players, and 5 former athletes who represented their high schools at the 2025 OFSAA Girls Basketball Championships held across Ontario at the end of November. Their performances, leadership, and resilience showcased the strength of girls basketball across the St. Lawrence region—and highlighted the impact of the Lightning development system.
OFSAA "A" - Brockville
The A Championship, hosted by Ange-Gabriel Catholic College, featured outstanding contributions from Lightning athletes and coaches.
Ange-Gabriel C.C. – (4th Place)

Ange-Gabriel came out strong, winning their first three games and advancing deep into the championship bracket. They ultimately secured the antique bronze, marking a tremendous achievement on home court.
The team was coached by current Lightning JUEL Coach Randy Douglas and former Lightning Assistant Coach Luc Guenette, whose leadership was instrumental throughout the event.
Ange-Gabriel Roster includes the following Lightning athletes:

Grade 11: Emily Carrier
Grade 9: Kallie Secours-Rylands
Osgoode Township H.S. (3rd Place)

Osgoode delivered strong performances throughout the tournament beating the host team in the bronze medal clash.

Rideau District High School (Consolation Finalist)

Rideau competed fiercely throughout the tournament, reaching the consolation final.

OFSAA "AA" – Belleville
Thousand Islands Secondary School (2nd Place)

Thousand Islands Secondary School (TISS), led by standout senior Victoria Ford, advanced all the way to the gold medal final. In one of the tournament’s most dramatic games, TISS came up just short, earning a well-deserved silver medal after an inspiring run.

OFSAA "AAA" – Sarnia
Frontenac Secondary School (Quarter Finalist)

Frontenac Secondary School (FSS) once again proved to be among Ontario’s elite. After a strong start, their journey ended in the quarterfinals against Maple Secondary School from Orillia, who went on to win the gold medal. Despite the loss, Frontenac’s team showed that they were one of the top teams in Ontario.

Grade 11: Ella Rowsome, Maciee Webb
Grade 10: Peyton Campbell, Bella Kolff, Alliya Derbyshire
Leadership and Recognition Beyond the Court
The 2025 OFSAA Championships were not only about the players. Leadership and organization played a crucial role in the event’s success. Luc Guenette and Lyna Labelle served as co-conveners of the OFSAA "A" level competition in Brockville, ensuring smooth operations and a positive experience for all participants.

Additionally, long time basketball supporter Coach and Teacher Matt Reil, received the distinguished OFSAA Leadership in School Sport Award. His long-standing support for girls’ basketball in the region has made a significant impact, fostering growth and enthusiasm for the sport among young athletes particularly in the Brockville region.
A Proud Moment for Our Club and Community
This year’s OFSAA results highlight the depth of talent being developed within the St. Lawrence Lightning and across Eastern Ontario. Our athletes, coaches, and alumni continue to raise the bar—not only through wins and medals, but through leadership, teamwork, and passion for the sport.
